Oblique blunt action
If I truly want to help you make dinner. I'll research what ingredients we need. I'll head down to the markets to get everything, including the kale which tastes odd. I'll come back, start chopping, preparing and revise the method. I wouldn't waltz in halfway through you cooking, grab myself a drink and nonchalantly ask if there's anything I can do.
Mens health is no different. I've seen a huge amount of projects and business ideas aimed at improving the mental health of men in Australia once they've acknowledged they need help.
What I fail to see though, is enough projects on the front line. In the thick of the action, ie when Men actually need someone to chat to. Not when they think they someone to talk to, or when they've been pushed that way by their loved ones, as an "either you get help, or I'm taking custody of our paella pan and schnoodle."
Pro-activity means coming out on the front foot like our good mate Punter would do. It means, we're going to make an impact in someones life before they think they need us, whether we're a business, an individual or both.
That's why I've decided to give a few hours a week to any men in Melbourne that want to have a gym session and a chat. It's open to anyone. All they need do, is send me a carrier pidgeon or an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I can cater to all levels and it's completely free.
Here's to more physical and mental health projects in Australia that create change before we all realise it's actually needed.
